Mi Ultimo Suspiro, 2017

Mi Ultimo Suspiro, 2017 ( My Last Breath) is an installation comprised of garments cast in iced water bottles. The bottles were sourced from bottles left behind at different border entry points between the United States and Mexico, including California/ Tijuana, Arizona/Sonora, New Mexico/Chihuahua, and Texas/Chihuahua. Amézquita was interested in the void of the bottles. After frozen, the objects were placed on a bed of border soil; as the water melted, it left behind the clothes that occupied the void spaces in the bottles.
